In 2024, the Board of Directors announced the introduction of the Adelene N.T. Gaw Young Professional’s Service Award, established in memory of a highly admired and respected CRPA member and past chair of the International Liaison Committee, who sadly passed away in June 2023. Adelene left behind a legacy of dedication, commitment to service, and promoting education in radiation safety in Canada and internationally.
The award will be presented to a CRPA member who has demonstrated exemplary service within the Association. Eligible nominees for the Adelene N.T. Gaw Young Professional’s Award must:
Originally named the Founders’ Award and first presented to CRPA’s founding president, Richard Osborne (1936-2014), in 1988, the Richard V. Osborne Founders’ Award recognizes those who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the Association. To be eligible for this award, recipients must have voluntarily engaged in activities in one or more of the following areas:
The Raymond G. Ilson Leadership Award was introduced in 2016 to honour CRPA Founders’ Award recipient and past president, Raymond Ilson (1947-2015). The award is presented to a Radiation Protection professional who:
The Meritorious Service Award will be presented in recognition of significant contributions to either the Association or the radiation protection community in general.
The Distinguished Achievement Award is presented for outstanding contributions in the field of radiation protection. Recipients of this award must have received recognition from peers either nationally or internationally for accomplishments of major significance to the knowledge, practice or advancement of the radiation protection profession.
Honorary Members are individuals who have been approved by the Membership as persons worthy of a lifetime membership in the Association. Honorary Members pay no membership dues and are afforded the same privileges and voting rights as a Full member.
Nominees must have been a Full member for at least 10 consecutive years. Nominations are motioned for approval by the membership at the Annual General Meeting.
Any member or past member of the Association is eligible for the Awards, except current members of the Board of Directors or as described above.
At least two members of the Association must nominate a given individual for an Award or Honorary Membership.
Nominations will open in early 2025.
Honorary Membership nominations must be approved by the membership at the Annual General Meeting and Award winners are announced at the Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony at the CRPA conference.

A short biographical resume of the candidate’s career and reasons why the candidate is being nominated must be provided. Reports, references etc., should be submitted as supporting material for the candidate’s nomination in line with the objectives of the award.
