Starting in 2026, the Canadian Radiation Protection Association (CRPA) is pleased to partner with the Radiation Safety Institute of Canada to administer the Delmar McCormack Smyth Scholarship.
Founded in 1980, the Radiation Safety Institute of Canada is an independent, national organization dedicated to promoting and advancing radiation safety in the workplace, in the environment and in the community. Delmar McCormack Smyth, MA, PhilM, PhD (1922-2011) was the Founding Chair and an Honorary Life Chair of the Institute.
The number and amount of scholarships to be awarded each year are subject to available funding.
Applicants will be required to submit a minimum 750-word essay on a different theme each year, along with documentation confirming their enrollment.
Finalists will be contacted between February and March 2026 for eligibility verification, and winners will be announced in March 2026.
Scholarship recipients will be encouraged to attend the annual CRPA Conference. Full conference registration (including banquet), three nights’ hotel accommodation and travel expenses will be provided (subject to reasonable cost limits and availability). Note that the CRPA 2026 Annual Conference is a joint venture with the Canadian Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists (CARST) and will take place in Saskatoon, SK during the week of May 27-30, 2026 (CARST-CRPA Symposium on Radon and Radiation Protection).
To be eligible, applicants must:
