Conference

We hope you can join us for the 44th Annual Conference taking place on May 26 - 30, 2025 at the David Braley Health Sciences Centre in Hamilton, Ontario. The theme of the conference is Forging the Future.

Professional Development

CRPA offers both Scientific and Informational sessions online via a customized Learning Management Portal (Thinkific). If you are unable to attend a Live Stream session, most are recorded and can be accessed On Demand. Most sessions are available to both members and non-members, with discounted pricing for CRPA members.

CRPA Bulletin

The CRPA Bulletin serves as a communication tool for the Association’s activities and as a forum for sharing insights, advice, and solutions related to radiation protection. The Bulletin is published online and a printed copy of the Spring edition is distributed to all CRPA Conference delegates. If you are interested in submitting an article or placing an advertisement, contact the Secretariat.

Professional Designation

The CRPA(R) designation is the highest level of competency recognized by the CRPA at the Canadian level.   To attain the level of Registered Radiation Safety Professional (RRSP), you must:

  • Be a member of CRPA
  • Be approved for Recognition by demonstrating academic achievement and experience in the radiation sciences field
  • Successfully complete an in-person exam administered by the CRPA based on identified core competencies
 
Maintenance of Registration requires payment of annual CRPA membership dues, and submission of a Credit Summary Worksheet and payment of RRSP Maintenance Fee every three years.

When is the next CRPA(R) exam?

The next CRPA(R) exam will take place in the Fall of 2024.  Date and location(s) to be determined.

The Spring 2025 Exam will take place on May 26, 2025 in Hamilton, Ontario.

Applications for Recognition and Exam Registration are currently closed but will reopen for the Fall 2024 exam.

There is an Exam Preparation course for members only available via the Professional Development Sessions section of the members’ website.

Awards

Each year, the Board of Directors accepts nominations for the CRPA awards. Winners are announced at the Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony at the CRPA conference. 

  • Adelene N.T. Gaw Young Professional’s Service Award (new in 2024)
  • Richard V. Osborne Founders’ Award
  • Raymond G. Ilson Leadership Award
  • Meritorious Service Award
  • Distinguished Achievement Award
 
Nominations are also accepted for Honorary Memberships, which are motioned for approval at the Annual General Meeting.

Anthony J. MacKay Student Paper Contest

The contest is organized by the Student and Young Professionals Committee (SYPCOM) in conjunction with the CRPA annual conference.

Students enrolled in a Canadian college or university program related to the radiation sciences, as well as recent graduates, are eligible to enter. 

Three finalists are selected to present their work in person at the conference and will receive complimentary conference registration and three nights’ hotel accommodation.

The winner will be awarded the Anthony J. MacKay trophy, receive a $250 cash prize, and have their paper is published in the CRPA Bulletin.
